Centreville WWTP non-compliant AGAIN

According to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Environmental Enforcement & Compliance History Online (ECHO) database. The Centreville Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) has once again exceeded permit levels of nitrogen in January 2010. The Town was also cited for “Management Practice Violations – Improper Operation and Maintenance” in April of 2010.

Although an improvement over last year, the nitrogen concentration exceeded the permitted level of 6 MG/L by 12% in January of 2010. This is one of the months when the plant is permitted to discharge into the Corsica River.

It should also be noted that the flow rate in March of 2010 was right at the limit of the permitted discharge of 500,000 gallons/day (GPD).

The average flow for the four months (December, January, February and March) that discharge into the Corsica River is permitted has increased 38% from 310,000 GPD to 410,000 GPD.
